The Ganjam Chamber of Commerce has written a letter to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik urging him to recommend to the Civil Aviation Ministry to convert the existing Rangeilunda Airstrip here into a full-fledged airport.

In the letter, chamber president VV Ram Narasinga Rao said Brahmapur is one of the most important business hubs of the State and is considered the gateway of south Odisha.

“long ago, a lot of import and export business was taking place through the Gopalpur Port and steps are being taken by the Government to revive the port. Meanwhile, a number of premier educational institutions, including the IISER, have come up in and around Brahmapur. Besides, the Tata Steel is just completing its unit near Chhatrapur. All these institutions will be able to serve better and business will grow if a full-fledged airport is available in the silk city,” mentioned Rao.

Rao urged the Cheif Minister to recommend to the Civil Aviation Minister to convert the Rangeilunda Airstrip into a full-fledged airport or set up a new modern airport near here.
