Make in Odisha: State ropes in FICCI

The State Government has decided to partner with the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) for the 2018 Make in Odisha Conclave and investment promotion activities.

This was stated by Industries Minister Ananta Das here on Friday.

“After discussion with the State Government, the FICCI has agreed to be part of the Make in Odisha conclave in November 2018,” he said.

The second edition of the Make in Odisha, the business biennial conclave, is scheduled to be held from November 11 to 15 here.

Meanwhile the State Government on June 8 disengaged the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as its industry partner months after the CII communicated its inability to participate in the conclave.

The FICCI would now help the State Government in organising investment promotion activities within the country and abroad in the run-up to the biennial investors’ meet. The FICCI would also assist the State Government in ensuring participation of corporate majors in the business conclave in November.

The CII had partnered with the State Government to organise the first edition of the Make in Odisha (MiO) conclave in November-December 2016 during which the State received investment intents worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore.

The CII’s decision not to participate in the MiO conclave had triggered a political row as the ruling BJD blamed the CII’s eastern zone chairperson and former MP Baijayant Panda’s wife Jagi Mangat Panda for being behind the move. She had then requested not to drag her into politics. The CII’s decision had also forced its Odisha chapter chairperson and vice-chairperson to resign from their positions.
