A 23-year-old girl from Odisha working as a maid in Kerala was reportedly raped and impregnated by her house owner, a well known cashew nut trader.
The accused, identified as Rajmohan Pillai (53), has been arrested by the Thiruvananthapuram police on the complaint of the victim.
According to reports, the matter came to the fore when the girl went to a hospital for abortion under pressure from Rajmohan and his friends.
Unable to understand the unmarried girl’s language, a doctor of the hospital asked his Odia colleague to talk to her.
The girl told the Odia doctor that she was sexually abused by Rajmohan multiple times. Then, the hospital authorities informed the Thiruvananthapuram police.
The victim reportedly told the police that she had been working as a domestic help at Rajmohan’s residence for the last eight months.
The girl has been sent to a shelter home, police said. The accused has been sent to jail custody, reports said.
