A housemaid was found hanging at a hotel owner’s residence at Udit Nagar in Rourkela on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Birasmani Badaika of the K Balanga area of Sundargarh district.
It was yet to be ascertained why she took the extreme step.
Birasmani was working as a maid at Hotel Amrut Sagar owner’s residence for last several days. She was staying in a room at his employer’s residence, sources said.
Birasmani was found hanging ins her room Friday night. She was immediately rushed to the IGH Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
“Birasmani talked to me over phone Thursday night. She was very much happy. I could not believe that she is no more with us,” said the deceased maid’s sister, who resides in Kuaramunda area near the incident.
The police have sent the body for postmortem and launched a probe into the incident.
