Mahtab buckles, compromises on statement

After observing that MlA Pravat Tripathy's suspension from the BJD by party supremo Naveen Patnaik was not justified, Cuttack BJD MP Bhartruhari Mahtab found him in a tight spot, for which he has now made a compromise on his statement.

Mahtab, after realising that his statement might damage his political career, has sought to do some damage control, saying he stands by the decision of the party president.

"Some Press reports have misquoted me and have stated that I have challenged the decision of the party, which is not true. President of our party has the final say, and I stand by the decision of the party," Mahtab said in a statement.

Mahtab obviously sensed trouble after BJD chief spokesperson Amar Satpathy chided him for going public on the Tripathy issue. When a decision is taken by the party supremo, there should not be any questions about it, especially through the media, said Satpathy.

Being such an experienced leader and the leader of party in lok Sabha, Mahtab should have resisted the temptation of going to the media no matter how uncomfortable he might have felt following the decision to suspend Tripathy from BJD, said Satpathy, while reminding Mahtab that such intransigence would not be allowed to go unnoticed by the party.
