The Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee held a ‘Swabhiman Sankalp Samabesh’ campaign at the State party headquarters here on Thursday.

“Through the campaign, the party members will throw light on the issues faced by women including rising atrocities against them and anti-liquor movement in the State. The Mahila Congress would put forth its demands before the State and the Central Governments to make provision for reservation of women in the Odisha Assembly and Parliament to stop liquor, rape, child abuse and women atrocities in the State,” informed Odisha Mahila Congress Committee president  Sumitra Jena.

The Mahila Congress opened a helpline desk bearing the mobile number 7008999858 to render assistance in case of women atrocities or for any other kind of assistance required by using WhatsApp. phone call or SMS.

AICC general secretary Sandhya Sablkey, addressing the gathering, said that the deteriorating law and order situation and the rise in incidents of crime against women and rape of minor girls in the State has now put women’s life at grave risk. The Congress women wing  tried to corner the Odisha Government over the incidents of rape and murder. But the situation clearly implies that there is no fear of law among the culprits. The Chief Minister should break his silence on such issues, Sablkey said and asked the Mahila Congress to be more active to act against such incident s in the State.

The BJD Government in Odisha and the BJP regime at the Centre have failed to protect the interests of women, Sumitra Jena said,.
