Members of the Jharsuguda district Mahila Congress staged a demonstration at the Gandhi statue near bus stand here on Monday in protest against demonetisation move of the Union Government.

A large number of women led by district president Sarita Agarwal sat on a dharna alleging that people of the district are still facing problems of cash unavailability due demonetisation.

Jharsuguda MlA Naba Kishore Das described demonetisation as a surgical strike against the poor and middle classes of the country. “Every person in the society is feeling the brunt and the situation in rural areas is very bad as banks, post offices and rural co-operative banks have failed to supply adequate currency notes,” said Das.

Among others, zone coordinator Sudhir Panda and senior leaders like P Padhi, S Sarkar, VG Panigrahi and Rubina Khatoon spoke.
