Pradesh Mahila Congress president Bijayalaxmi Sahoo on Saturday demanded adequate compensation for the 40-year-old woman who was allegedly raped and dumped with her hands and legs tied in an abandoned well at Nilagiri Patna under the Nirakarpur police limits in Khodha district recently. Sahoo said a fact finding team led by her had visited the village on Friday.

"A teacher of the village school had called the victim over phone to meet him telling her that he wanted to purchase some papad and other items from her. When she reached his house, the teacher soon confined her and repeatedly raped her. Then he put her in a gunny bag and threw her in 20-feed deep well in another person’s backyard, some 200 meters away from his house," Sahoo said quoting the victim.

The Congress leader said she was fortunately saved by some villagers in the next day morning. She was found with several injury marks and rushed to the Khordha District Headquarters Hospital. According to doctors she was out of danger, Sahoo said. She said the victim is the sole earner for her four-member family as her husband is a half mad person. The other two members of her family are minor.

"The Mahila Congress demands that Government provide immediate financial help for the family to keep the 'Chullaha' burning and a monthly pension to her husband. Besides, the accused should be debarred from entering into the village," Sahoo demanded.
