All India Mahila Congress Committee (AIMCC) secretary and Tripura and Chhattisgarh Mahila Congress in-charge Asima Mahananda died of cancer at 8.40 am on Wednesday here at a private hospital. She was 52 and was suffering from cancer since last three months.
She is survived by her husband, two sons and a daughter. Mahananda was the daughter of former Cuttack Sadar MP late Harekrushna Mallick of Madhnya Gachha village of Salepur area in Cuttack district. She was president of the Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress for several years.
PCC president Jayadev Jena mourned the death of Mahananda. leader of Opposition in the Assembly Bhupinder Singh said the PCC lost a firebrand woman leader. Former PCC president Sarat Pattanaik too condoled Mahananda’s demise. BJP State president KV Singh Deo also expressed deep condolence over the demise of Mahananda.
