A businessman was injured when miscreants opened fire at him at Gopalpur Pandia Chowk under Mahanga block in Cuttack district on Wednesday.
The businessman, Maheswar Mohanty, got a bullet pierced in his thigh. The bike-borne miscreants fled from the spot.
Mohanty was first rushed to the Mahanga hospital and, as his condition deteriorated, was later shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. He was stable, said sources.
Police suspect that Mohanty might have been over a past enmity.
