In a shocking incident, a minor girl attempted to commit suicide after being allegedly raped by a 28-year-old neighbourer in Gunupur village of Mulabasanat grama panchayat under the Mahanga police limit in Cuttack district on Saturday. The 16-year-old girl is now undergoing treatment at the Mahanga Community Health Center (CHC).
According to the FIR filed the victim’s father, the girl was sitting alone on their verandah at about 9 am when Sankar Paramanik came and forcefully lifted her to a room and raped her by locking the door from inside. He then threatened the victim not to disclose the matter to anybody and fled from the spot. Victim’s parents were outside at that time.
In shame, the girl consumed pesticide and subsequently started vomiting. When her mother returned home saw all these and took her to the Mahanga CHC. Acting on the FIR, police arrested the accused. “The accused is being interrogated now,” said IIC SS Tripathy. Meanwhile doctors said the girl is out of danger now.
