Champua Independent MlA Sanatan Mahakud appeared at the Mahila police station here on Tuesday to record his statement in connection with the complaint lodged by Kavita Mahakud, who claims to be his daughter-in-law.

His statement was recorded under Section 162 CrPC. He had been earlier served notice by the Commissionerate police to appear before the Mahila police by September 19.

Notably, he had arrived at the Mahila police station at around 11 pm on Monday. But the investigating officers could not record his statement as he came late.

After coming out of the police station, the MlA reiterated that the complainant was not his daughter-in-law and termed the allegations against him as baseless.

“I don’t know her. I will move court of law, if necessary,” said he.

Earlier, the statement of the crorepati MlA’s son Pankaj Mahakud has been recorded before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in the city.

Pankaj first recorded his statement as per Section 164 CrPC and was later produced in the court by the Mahila police.

Notably, Kavita has filed a case of physical and mental harassment against the MlA in Bhubaneswar on March 1. A case under Sections 498 A, 341, 294 and 34 IPC was registered at the Mahila police station.

Kavita has stated that she had tied the knot with the MlA’s eldest son Pankaj in 2012 after separating from her first husband Debasis Mahakud.
