A BTech third year girl student of city-based Silicon Institute on Friday committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her hostel room. The exact reason of the suicide was yet to be ascertained.
Deceased Romesa Romanica (21) hailed from the Mahakalpada area in Kendrapada district and was staying in the college hostel in room number 232 with three other mates. According to the investigating officer of Infocity police station laximinarayan Behera, the police received a report about the suicide from the college authorities at 10.30 pm on Friday “While three of her roommates are on vacation, she hanged herself from the ceiling of her hostel room with her chunri,” said Behera.
The deceased’s father Duryadhan Sethi (55) held the college authorities responsible for the suicide and demanded that the college authorities be brought into the purview of the inquiry. Refuting the allegation, the college authorities said the girl might have committed suicide due to mental stress as she failed in 14 subjects in the last semester.
