Maggi noodles reenter Odisha market

The brand of two-minute Maggi noodles, which was banned for higher lead content, reentered the Odisha market on Thursday with due approval of the State Government.

“The Nestle has been permitted to sell its Maggi noodles in Odisha market on two conditions one of which is it will have to maintain maximum of 2.5 milligram lead content in every kg of noodles. We will conduct laboratory tests on the Maggi noodles after a month and renew permission,” Food Security Commissioner Babaji Charan Das told mediapersons here.

In the afternoon, Nestle India CMD Suresh Narayanan met Chief Secretary AP Padhi and briefed about how Maggi noodles are safe for consumption.

“Maggi noodles were safe, are safe and will remain safe in coming days,” Narayanan told reporters and thanked the State Government for allowing the company to sell noodles in Odisha. Notably, the State Government had on June 8 banned the sale of Maggi noodles for its high lead content, which is very injurious to health.
