Made statement as a professional, says DGP

Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik on Monday clarified that his statement on reduction of Central allocation for police modernisation in the State was not politically motivated but was of a professional.

“The State earlier used to get Rs 127 crore per annum from different heads for development of the police. As a professional, I see that stopping of Central assistance for police modernisation, capacity building and infrastructure development in Naxal affected areas will be certainly affected. Hence, I made such comments professionally,” said the DGP told mediapersons.

On Saturday, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had strongly disapproved of the remark of the DGP and he was also backed by two more Union Ministers, Jual Oram and Mahesh Sharma.

The Union Ministers stated that it was not proper on the part of an all-India Service Officer to give such a statement and alleged that the ruling BJD has been engaging IAS and IPS officers in political activities.
