Poor percentage of enrollment of the new voters in the photo electoral rolls of the Nainital district has come as a cause of concern. The Election Commission of India has expressed its concern over the ‘unsatisfactory’ number of voters being enrolled in the electoral rolls of the Nainital district as compared to its population.
That means new voters who have attained 18 years of age are not being enrolled in the electoral rolls as compared to their actual number, said A S Nayal, Commissioner of Kumaon and Roll Observer, while asking the officials concerned of the district election office, Nainital, to launch special efforts to ensure cent percent enrollment of the eligible voters in the voter list.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Kumaon/ Roll Observer, has also appealed to the representatives of the political parties to get the names of the voters, including those who have completed 18 years of age, enrolled in the voter list.More so, since booth level officers (BlOs) have been appointed by the district election office Nainital, therefore, the political parties have also been advised to appoint their booth level agents (BlAs) so that the voter list could be updated, added the official concerned.
More so, he has also stressed the need to enroll the names of women and youths compulsorily in the voter list.Besides, the Commissioner of Kumaon/ Roll Observer, has also stressed on the need to create awareness about the enrollment of names in the voter list, saying in a democratic system, participation of voters in maximum number is a must.
According to the district election office Nainital, there are presently 661488 voters- 350833 male and 310655 female voters- in six Assembly constituencies- lalkuwan, Bhimtal, the Nainital, Haldwani, Kaladhungi and Ramnagar Assembly constituencies.Besides, there are 864 polling booths and 544 polling centres across these six Assembly constituencies of the Nainital district, added the officials concerned of the district election office, Nainital.
