Low pressure turns ‘well-marked’

A low pressure formed over south Bangladesh and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and West Bengal turned into a ‘well-marked low-pressure system’ on Wednesday morning, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre here.

“Yesterday’s low pressure over north Bay of Bengal now lies as a well-marked Low Pressure Area over south Bangladesh and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and West Bengal. It is likely to move westwards across West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar during the next 48 hours,” the IMD said.

The weather office has issued a yellow warning with forecasts of widespread light to moderate rainfall and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall for a number of districts till July 30.

The IMD has also warned the fishermen not to venture into north Bay of Bengal between July 28 and 30 as squally wind reaching upto a speed of 40-50 kmph is likely to prevail during this time.

Till Tuesday, the State has recorded a total of 402.1 mm rainfall which is 21 per cent deficient as compared to the long-term average rainfall.
