The case of assault on a girl by seven persons in Sundargarh district over the burning of paddy stacks and subsequently their arrest took an interesting turn after the injured girl was called on at the hospital by her lover, who is a married person.
The lover claimed that his wife had agreed to their divorce provided they compensate her for the expenses her parents incurred in her marriage and it has been accepted. He claimed that soon after the divorce, he would tie knot afresh.
Sunil Munda of Kaputkara village under lepripada police station in Sundargarh met Nita at the district headquarters hospital where the latter has been undergoing treatment after being assaulted by the village people. Though as per the FIR, the aggressors complained that the victim girl burnt their paddy stacks, it was also heard that they had personal grudge against the girl for demanding to marry Sunil who is already married. These persons had mediated in the marriage of Sunil.
Sources said despite his marriage, Sunil had not been able to forget Nita. After some days of their marriage, both fled to Belpahar. They also stayed at Belpahar as husband and wife for about three months. later when they returned to their village, Nita demanded to marry Sunil at his house. She squatted at his house pressing for her demand. On December 4 night, she was, however, assaulted by Tarakanta Makar, Hemant Makar, lalita Makar, Augustine Munda and Vishal Munda and two other minor girls of the Munda family. On December 8, the police had arrested the seven persons. Sunil discreetly came from his house to meet Nita at hospital on Monday. After meeting Nita, he told that without marrying her, he won’t go home. “My wife has agreed to divorce me since she has come to know that I won’t be able to live without Nita whom Ilove,” said Sunil.
