A young woman committed suicide in the district on Thursday after her boyfriend uploaded an objectionable video of her on social media.
The woman, a resident of Banatal police station area, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital here in the evening after she consumed poison when the video went viral.
Sources said the woman was in love with a youth of Talcher area. Both used to talk over video calls, during which she had showed her private parts to the youth. The accused had captured a clip from the video calls and uploaded the same on social media. Shamed with this, the woman consumed poison.
Meanwhile, her family members have lodged a complaint against the youth at the Bantala police station. Acting on the complaint, the police have begun an investigation into the incident and are on the lookout for the accused.
However, on Friday the State Mahila Congress members held a demonstration in Bantala demanding arrest of the accused youth. The incident has triggered resentment among the locals in the area.
