In connection with the murder of a 20-year-old girl, the Baleswar Sadar Police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old youth and forwarded him to court.
Ironically, the accused Pradip Kumar Acharya, a native of Chaulachada under Sasang GP of Sadar block, was the lover of the deceased Suman Kulu, a resident of Raghunathpali, Rourkela, and an Arts student of the Municipality College, Rourkela.
The girl was found hanging from a branch of a tree at Nadaigaon under the Sadar Police Station on Wednesday.Pradip was residing at Indirapali in Sector-22 of Rourkela with his family as his father is an employee of the Rourkela Steel Plant and he too was working in the plant under a contractor.
Pradip and Suman had love affairs for about five years and also had physical relationship as the former had promised to marry the girl.Police have come to learn that Pradip had brought the girl to his native place on the pretext of marrying her, but he killed her by strangulation at a secluded place in early hours on Wednesday.
As the girl was pregnant for two months and was pressurising Pradip for marriage, the former finding no escape route brought her to Baleswar in a train from Rourkela. They then went to his native village by an auto-rickshaw.
After killing the girl, Pradip hanged her body from the tree to give an impression of a case of suicide, and while trying to flee from the village he was caught by the police.“A case under Sections 302 and 201 of IPC has been registered and further investigation is in progress,” said Sadar Police Station IIC Chandan Ghodai.
