A love couple died apparently due to lightning at Chenpur in Kuanrmunda in Sundargarh district on Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Nilima Kewrketta (25) of Dumkeshia and Ranjit Singh Bhukta (22) of Dubangagiri under the Kuanrumunda police outpost. Acting on information, the Kuanrumunda police went to the spot and recovered the bodies that were lying under a tree.
Police said the two were in love relationship. On Tuesday evening, Nilima went out to do prayer but did not return. later, her family members found the dead bodies of her daughter and another youth under the tree.
Police suspects the duo might have died of lightning while sitting under the tree. Ranjit was studying engineering in Bhubaneswar. The dead bodies were handed over to their family members after post-mortem. Though an unnatural death case has been registered, investigating is on, said outpost In-charge KN Barik.
