Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik on Wednesday demanded that the Government inform the House as to what actions have been taken in the incidents of a kidnapping and rape of a minor girl in Balangir district and “murder” of an engineering girl student of Paradip.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Naik quoted a newspaper and said a minor girl of Buromal village under Kantabanji police limits was abducted and raped in captivity for many days. One Pradeep Mohaptra of Karlabahali village under Belpada police limits had abducted the girl. On November 22, Mohapatra brought the girl back to her village following which her family lodged a complaint.
In another case, an engineering student, Subhalaxmi Ojha of Paradip block, was found dead near a railway track at Bandhbati Gate on November 10. The father has alleged rape and murder of her daughter. While the girl was studying in the Ganapati Engineering College in Jagatpur, her college senior Subhranshu Biswal had threatened the deceased on phone a day before her body was recovered.
“Cases of sexual assaults on minor girls are rising alarmingly during the BJD Government. As many as 600 minor rapes have been reported in six months. The Government inaction has promoted such ghastly incidents. The Government should make a statement on the two cases,” demanded Naik.
Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja too demanded a statement from the Government in the Balangir kidnapping and rape incident.
