Buckling under the continuing pressure from Opposition Congress and BJP members, particularly leader of Opposition (loP) Narasingha Mishra, the State Government on Friday finally agreed for presentation and passing of a resolution for an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for a quintal of paddy to Rs 2,800 and send the same to the Union Government for consideration.
Accusing the State Government of not following the decisions taken at the Assembly Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings, Mishra had resigned as member of the committee earlier in the day.
As he submitted his resignation to the Assembly Secretary, he was unlikely to attend the committee meeting scheduled for the evening.
However, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Sanjay Kumar Dasburma and Government Chief Whip Ananta Das went to Mishra to withdraw his decision.
After meeting Mishra, Dasburma told reporters that a debate on passing of a unanimous resolution for increasing MSP for paddy would be held in the House on Saturday.
