The lone zebra in the Nandankanan Zoological Park died due to prolonged illness on Tuesday morning. The striper animal was suffering from rheumatic fever for the past six months and was undergoing treatment at the park, informed zoo officials. As many as seven zebras have died at the zoo due to different reasons during last four years, zoo sources said.
“The zoo has been witnessing a big number of visitors since December 25. The lone zebra’s death would dishearten visitors now,” said some roadside vendors near the zoo. However, zoo officials said they would try to bring a zebra soon from another zoo in exchange of some animals. The zoo authorities have failed to ensure proper mechanism for the safety of the animals.
