The Lokayukta Selection Committee headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met at the State Guest House here for the first time on Saturday.
The committee, which is responsible for selection of the Lokayukta and five members, nominated a person for the fifth Member’s post to the Governor for approval.
“We have nominated a person for the fifth Member post of the State Lokayukta. He is an eminent jurist,” said Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Narasingha Mishra, who is a member of the committee, after the meeting.
The other members of the committee include Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court KS Jhaveri and State Assembly Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat.
It may be noted that the Supreme Court had on July 10 directed the State Government to appoint the Lokayukta and members within three months’ time. Accordingly, the committee met today. The Government is likely to seek more time from the apex court for appointment of the Lokayukta and other four members.
