The Odisha Chapter of India against Corruption (IAC) has demanded convening of a special session of the State Assembly for passing a strong lokayukta Bill for the State.
IAC volunteer Malay Kumar Tripathy said on Wednesday said that the BJD Government, which never tires of claiming transparency, should take a leaf out of the book of the Uttarakhand Government and convene a special session of the Assembly to prove that its claim is not mere rhetoric.
The IAC launched a scathing attack on BJD leader in lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahtab for going back on his commitment on the floor of Parliament two years ago that his party would adopt a “strong” lokayukta Bill in “three months”.
But Mahtab has now made a volte face stating that he had said the BJD would bring such a Bill within three months of Parliament passing the lokpal Bill, Tripathy alleged.
Parliament recently passed the lokpal and lokayukta Bill, 2011. As per the provisions of the Bill, all States have to pass their lokayukta Bills within a year.
