Members of the lok Shakti Abhiyan staged a dharna protesting ‘growing religion-related violence and intolerance’ at the lower PMG here on Monday.
The members criticised the Modi Government at the Centre for remaining silent over incidents like lynching, shooting, burning and killing of people belonging to minority communities. “The Centre’s silence encourages fundamentalists to commit crimes,” said Abhiyan president Prafulla Samantara.
He welcomed the writers, scientists and other awardees who are returning their awards protesting these ‘anti-national’ activities. “It is a great sacrifice,” he opined.
He said all citizens should be treated equally, irrespective of caste and religion, and the Government should uphold this constitutional right of the people.
They appealed to the people to maintain communal harmony.
A total of 30 members also staged a fast stir on this occasion while more than a hundred people participated in the dharna.
