lok Shakti Abhiyan activists on Wednesday gheraoed the Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) demanding CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in implementation of the Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in the city.
The members alleged that the about 10 per cent of RAY and PMAY houses have only been done. They said the funds coming under the two schemes from the Centre are not being spent properly.
They also said that real beneficiaries have been deprived of the benefits for which they have to taken to the streets. They threatened if the urban poor don’t get houses soon, the agitation would be intensified further in coming days.
The members have also decided to create awareness in 163 slums in the city and different panchayats in the district and make them know about ‘Right to House, Right to life’ by fixing banners and posters and distributing leaflets.
Among others, Abhiyan district president Madhusudan Sethi, Kishore Patro, Baijayanti Patro, Simanchal Nahak, laxmi Nursingha Rath and Abani Gaya were present.
