Lockdown possibility in State can’t be ruled out

The Covid-19 situation in the Odisha is currently under control and it doesn’t suggest any lockdown for the time being.

However, a possibility of lockdown in coming days cannot be ruled out, said Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) Director CBK Mohanty on Saturday.

He told the media that though there has been a surge in Covid-19 cases in some parts of the country leading to imposition of lockdown and night curfew, the situation is under good control in Odisha, where the daily figures of positive cases remain in double digits. However, the district administrations have been given a free hand to announce containment zones in the areas reporting a spike in the cases, he informed. “Imposition of lockdown can be avoided if the people will be cautious. They should strictly follow all prescribed guidelines, including mask-wearing and social distancing.

Out surveillance teams are keeping a track on the people coming from other States. But it is not possible to reach out to four crore people.

Hence, those having symptoms should come out to report and consult doctors,” said Dr Mohanty.

Keeping in view the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in some States, including Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, the Odisha Government has directed district Collectors and SPs, DCPs, Municipal Commissioners and CDMOs to ensure strict enforcement of appropriate Covid behaviour in their districts and cities to prevent any spike in cases.
