locals protest Tirtol PS IIC transfer

Public resentment is brewing in Tirtol police limits due to sudden transfer of Tirtol police station IIC Abhinab Dalua.

Many people and social activists have demanded continuance of Dalua and threatened to start an agitation if their demand was not met.

Notably, IIC Dalua had courted controversy following Tirtol police station violence during the Prime Minister’s visit to Paradip oil refinery inauguration on February 7 last.

Tirtol police station was ransacked and damaged by a few BJD and BJP supporters and Niali MlA Pramod Mallick had been manhandled by BJP supporters. Police had picked up six BJD workers and 11 BJP workers allegedly involved in the violence.

Both BJP and BJD had claimed action against IIC Dalua and blamed him for the untoward incident in the Tirtol police station. They said the violence could have been averted, if the IIC had taken timely step.

The district BJP unit had staged demonstration and protest meeting in front of the SP office two weeks ago seeking action against IIC Dalua.

The district police administration two days ago made a major reshuffle. As per the programme, Tirtol police station IIC Dalua has been shifted to Biridi police station.

But many people and social activists said the police officer was victimized. Six months ago he had transferred to Tirtol police station. During his tenure he proved his competence and controlled the local law and order situation. Especially his anti liquor drive had satisfied local denizens, they remarked.

On the other hand district Superintendent of Police Sudha Singh described the transfer of IIC as a part of routine work.
