locals of Binika in Subarnapur district on Tuesday observed a bandh demanding a Crime Branch inquiry into the death of one Belar Khandayat alleging that he has been murdered.
During the bandh, all shops and other business establishments, Government and private offices remained closed and vehicular traffic was off the roads.
Belar’s father and his family have been sitting on a fast-unto-death before the Binika tehsil office. While the police claimed that the deceased died in an accident, his father Gopal said it was a cold-blooded murder and the cops were hand in glove with the culprits.
Earlier, the youth’s family had submitted a memorandum to the district Collector through Tehsildar Ashok Bhoi. The Tehsildar had requested them to call-off their stir. But they have stuck to their guns and continue to sit before the Tehsil office.
By conniving with the culprits, the police have tarnished their reputation
and overshadowed their good deeds. The Superintendent of Police should intervene in the matter and ensure justice is done in the case. Otherwise, the people would lose their faith on them, said the local residents.
