locals for strict discipline in hospital works

The conscious people of the region and various other organisations are not happy with the matters in VIMSAR, treated to the lifeline of western Odisha so far as health service is concerned. This institution also caters to the needs of the neighbouring States like Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Even if the State Government has suspended the Blood Bank officer of the medical college and hospital Dr Rajendra Patnaik and removed two other junior staff from job, but people are not prepared to believe either the staff posted here or the State Government as a whole, since irregularities are a regular affair here.  “Even the role of the local administration to set VIMSAR right is highly dissatisfactory as they take no interest for the public interest,” alleged many individuals and organisations here.

The Sambalpur Press Club, Varasa Paribar, Sambalpur Bikash Manch, Utscharga and many elite citizens have also put forth their views on the matter. They alleged that the doctors of the MCH spend most of their time in nursing homes of Burla and Sambalpur. This is the reason why such unfortunate incidents are happening here, they said.

Former HoD of Physics department in Sambalpur University Dr Shankar Prasad Pati suggested for social audit of the VIMSAR everyday through an organisation with the local intelligentsia. “This can be of great help to the institution and the patients coming here for treatment since the doctors here are forgetting their duties simply for monetary gains,” Dr Pati opined.

The matter of exchange of a girl child is fresh in the news here. Further transfusion of dreaded HIV positive and Hepatitis positive blood to the patients speaks volumes of the irresponsibility as well as inhumanity of the authorities here.

In such situation, many people are now coming forward to directly interfere in the matter of VIMSAR. “We will first request the local administration to ensure that doctors during their duty hours can't visit nursing homes or make private practices. If the administration fails to do so, we will resort to force and make them confined to the VIMSAR, come what may,” many said. “We will also take equal stand for the absconding doctors who spend 22 days out of Burla but draw salary from here,” they warned.
