Irate locals of Bankuala village blocked the Bhubaneswar-Puri bypass road on Saturday after a youth, Sushant Nayak (42), was beaten to death by some people under the Saheed Nagar police station on Friday afternoon due to political rivalry.
Demanding adequate compensation to the family members of the deceased, the villagers also demanded arrest of all the persons involved in the crime. Vehicular movement was disrupted for several hours due to the agitation.
Sources said the attackers killed Sushant Nayak after an altercation over panchayat polls. He was last seen near a shop at Mahulapada Chhak near his village at around 4 pm for a cup of tea on Friday where he had a spat with the shop owner over the ensuing panchayat polls.
later, sources said the shop owners along with his associates attacked Sushant with iron rods resulting in his death. locals admitted him at the Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Meanwhile, police arrested two persons in connection with the murder.
