The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Tuesday alleged that local BJD MlA Prashant Nanda’s supporters were involved in the burning of the Begunia police station in Khurda district by an angry mob on Sunday.
The NCP also alleged that Nanda had instigated his supporters to protest in a violent way making the death of a youth an issue.
The party condemned the violent protest by the MlA’s supporters which shows the deteriorating law and order situation in the district. Hooliganism of the ruling BJD workers in the area is on
the rise, and the MlA is patronising it, the NCP members alleged.
This is also a State-wide phenomenon as the ruling party MlAs and MPs are using their power to save their hooligan workers. Even the peoples’ representatives help their
supporters attack Opposition party leaders and influence the police to register false and fabricated cases against them, they said.
“Protesting the autocratic rule and lackadaisical attitude of the State Government, we will begin a signature campaign in the State and submit a memorandum to the President of India urging him to impose Central rule in the State,” said NCP Bhubaneswar committee president Ganesh Das and general secretary Amulya Kumar Das.
