A farmer of the district attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison after he was unable to pay installment dues for a loan made to procure a tractor. The incident was reported from Salagaon village in Srijung panchayat under Khantapara police station limits. Victim Sarat Parida (35) is undergoing treatment in the district headquarters hospital. According to Parida, he had bought a tractor for the purpose of agricultural works from a dealer of Remuna Golai in August 2012.
He could procure the tractor after selling family gold ornaments and paddy etc besides making private bank finance. Soon after a few months of the purchase of the tractor, it started developing snags frequently. While he approached the dealer from where he purchased the tractor, the service engineer of the company said the frequent breakdown of the vehicle was due to rough soil condition.
Parida couldn’t perform any activities for which he bought the tractor after selling his all resources. Consequently, he defaulted in paying the installments. On the matter, he met the district agriculture officer and the district consumer redressal forum. Also, he reportedly apprised the district Collector of his hardships in the grievance cell but all in vain. Failing to find relief from any quarters, he reportedly took the drastic step.
