The Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) on Tuesday opened its wing in Odisha with the appointment of Balaram Bagarti Yadav as the State president of the Loktantrik Yuva Janata Dal (LYJD).
All India president of the LYJD, Saleem Madavoor handed over a letter of appointment to Yadav at a media conference here.
Saleem said LJD national president Sarad Yadav will visit Odisha soon to open the State unit. The LJD will shortly select some of the Lok Sabha and Assembly seats to contest in the ensuing elections in the State, he informed.
Saleem strongly opposed the Central Government’s decision to provide 10 per cent reservation to the economically backward people stating it was against the basic principles of the Constitution. “The Constitution provides for reservation for socially and educationally backward classes,” he said.
But the present move is not aimed for poor people, the socialist leader said, adding as per the bill those who have annual income below Rs 8 lakh will be qualified for reservation. The income limit of more than 60 per cent people is Rs 2.5 lakh per annum, getting monthly salary of Rs 18,000 per month but the Modi Government has given reservation to the people who are earning Rs 66,666 per month, Saleem lamented.
He also strongly criticized the Central Government on the removal of the CBI Director Alok Verma stating that the Modi Government had been interfering in the day to day activities of the independent body.
