Teachers, students and guardians were shocked when they came to know that a dead lizard was found in the curry served in the mid-day meal (MDM) in the Gudrapara UP School under Jamankira block, 75 km from the district headquarters here.
By that time most of the students of the school had taken their food. One of them complained of sickness. However, his father immediately rushed him to a private doctor, following which his condition improved. Other guardians, as precautionary measures, also took their wards to doctors. It needs mention that this school with 266 students is run by a local catholic mission. But the State Government has provided four teachers here and two other teachers belong to the mission. The MDM is also provided by the Government. But the carelessness of the cooks and the teacher in charge of the MDM led to such an incident, locals alleged.
Since no major incident occurred even after students consuming the food with a dead lizard, the administration and the parents of the students heaved a sigh of relief. “In spite of so many instructions and awareness drives, some schools and particularly the cooks are yet to leave their old practice that invites such a situation,” opined Kuchinda Sub-Collector Sayad Md Aqdas. “We will ask them to be more careful henceforth,” he added.
