Tension prevailed in Ankurpalli village under the Biramitrapur police station in Sundargarh district on Sunday as hundreds of villagers ransacked a liquor shop and demand immediate arrest of its owner, who allegedly put a village woman’s molestation video in social media.

While the accused trader has absconded from the village, police have taken his family members in custody in a bid to avoid any security threat to them from the angry villagers.

Sources  said Jhasketan Sahu (45) of Ankurpalli had opened a liquor shop beside the village upper primary school boundary. The villagers had lodged a complaint with local authorities demanding immediate closure of the shop.

On Saturday evening, some villagers came to know that Jhasketan has circulated obscene pictures of some village women in social media. Angry at it, a group of locals searched for Jhasketan to ask him about the matter.

However, Jhasketan managed to flee from the village. Then, infuriated villagers gathered in large number and ransacked the liquor shop within minutes.

While agitated locals marched towards Jhasketan’s house, police prevented them and took all family members to custody.

Sub Collector HS Behera visited the spot to take stock of the situation.
