In yet another incident of lawlessness prevailing on the capital city outskirts, a liquor shop salesman sustained injuries after being shot at by two motorbike-borne miscreants near the Balakati panchayat office on Friday night.
Sources said salesman Jagabandhu Sahu was returning from the shop with his friend Nabakumar Sahu by a bike when the miscreants approached them from behind and tried to intercept them. When they did not stop, the criminals fired a shot in the air as a warning.
But when the duo tried to speed off, the miscreants overtook them and knocked their bike down along with Jagabandhu and his friend.
“They snatched away the money from me and shot my friend three times resulting in injuries in his arm, leg and back,” said Nabakumar.
The miscreants escaped from the spot after looting Rs 5,000 at gunpoint. Jagabandhu was rushed to the Balakati hospital, from where he was referred to the Capital Hospital after his condition deteriorated.
