A lightning signal system was installed in Athagarh on Friday which was funded by the OSDMA.
The Earth Network organisation of the USA in collaboration with the Institution of Technical Education and Research, Bhubaneswar, installed the system here on the building of the Government Elementary Teachers Institute.
Director of the Centre for Environment and Climate of ITER Dr Sarat Chandra Sahoo, who was present at the site of installation, said that on experimental basis these systems are being installed in 14 places of the State and two of these in Cuttack district, one is here and another at Tangi-Choudwar. The system will sound noisy before 40 minutes of lightning thereby to alert the nearby people to be rescued from the devastating occurrence, Sahu told.
The noise can be heard in one kilometre radius. If the system is successful, then it will be installed in every block headquarters of the State, said sources.
