lIC project allottees demand handover of flats

A group of people under the banner of the lIC (HFl) Allotee Owners’ Association staged a dharna at the lIC HFl Cares Homes project site near Satyasai Enclave of Kolathia in the city on Sunday protesting the lIC’s silence in handing over the flats to the allotees.

Talking to mediapersons, association secretary Sibasekhar Rath said the lIC HFl Cares Home, a subsidiary of the lIC, had given advertisement for 240 flats at the site way back in 2011 for people above the age of 50 with an initial hefty booking amount that is 50 per cent of the respective amount of flats. Depending on the category they had taken Rs 15 to 19 lakh for each flat. Accordingly, 240 people had paid the amount, he added.

Meanwhile, Rath said, the lIC has already taken 90 per cent of the project amount more than a year back. “The project was to be handed over to the allotees by April 2013, but it is nowhere near completion. Nobody from lIC is paying heed to our requests,” Rath added. The members of the association alleged that builders and the lIC cheated them. Even some may die without seeing the house in their lifetimes, they rued.
