A workshop on ‘Amplifying Women Voices by Changing Mindsets’ was organised here at the CYSD premises here on Friday. The workshop was part of an international campaign ‘One Billion Rising (OBR)’ aimed at ending violence against women.

Inaugurating the workshop, State Information Commissioner Shasiprava Bindhani said, “As violence against women is increasing day by day, youths along with NGOs should be engaged to spread awareness on the issue.” Most of the victims remain silent over the crimes against them, but they should raise their voice against it, she added.

Explaining the 16 days of activism observed worldwide and the campaign objectives, Geetanjali Jena from Trocaire said the need of the campaign has increased as violence against women is on the rise. She gave statistics that 92 women are raped on an average every day in India. “We should understand the intensity of the problem and prevent it,” she added. The talk was followed by songs and dance dramas based on the issues of violence against women.

Funding agent Nirnaya in association with the CARD and the Jagruti organised the workshop. Nirnaya project officer Subhashree Samal gave a welcome address.
