Apparently taunting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, BJD dissident MP Baijayant Panda on Friday used the former’s one-liner “law will takes its own course” to justify his (Panda’s) decision not to file a complaint with police against the recent attack on him by his opponents in the BJD at Mahanga.
Panda made the statement through Twitter to answer questions as to why he has not lodged an FIR against his assailants, one of whom had hurled an egg that hit Panda right on his forehead.
Panda found a supporter in Minister and BJD vice-president Damodar Rout on Friday when the latter said police are not acting in the incident as expected.
Rout even referred to an egg attack on the car of Chief Minister Patnaik in Bhubaneswar a couple of years ago for which police had filed a case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC against the attackers, who were youths of the Congress.
He wondered why police are not taking action in the case involving the Kendrapada MP when he was attacked physically.
Congress leader and Opposition Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati also demanded to know why no police action has been taken in the Mahanga incident when police had immediately slapped a Section 307 case against those who hurled eggs at the Chief Minister’s car. The attack on Panda was more serious as he suffered the assault physically, he pointed out.
Bahinipati taunted the Chief Minister suggesting that the CM award a Mahanga attacker with a job of policeman as he so successfully aimed an egg at Panda that it landed bang on the victim’s face.
