Former MlA Arun Dey came down heavily on the State Government over the SUM hospital tragedy. He in a media brief alleged that the mishap occurred owing to the failure of various departments of the State Government.
“I don’t demand the resignation of the Chief Minister, but just an apology from him to the people of the State for the tragedy,” he said.
Dey also questioned the delay for former Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak’s resignation. “There is no moral ground in this issue. Where is the moral of the Chief MinisterIJ He could have sacked him immediately after returning from
Delhi. It is under the media pressure that compelled the CM to ask for Nayak’s resignation,” Dey told.
“More than 86 per cent of hospitals of the State don’t have fire safety measures. The buildings and hospitals are made out of NRHM and NHM funds. The department was only busy in transfer and posting of doctors except looking into the core healthcare issue. All the hospitals have become now hotels ( bhojanalaya) with the opening of Ahhar centres,” said Dey.
He also sarcastically commented, “My suggestion is that the Government, when providing all facilities, should also open cremation facilities in all the hospitals so that there wouldn’t be any more Dana Majhi case.”
The veteran leader described the RDC probe into the SUM tragedy as an eye wash. “How can a junior level officer give adverse report against Secretary of the department and the GovernmentIJ There should be a probe into all the aspects, including the investments made by different people in the SUM ventures,” he opined.
