'let CAG audit discoms' accounts before tariff hike'

The Odisha Vidyut Upabhokta Mahasangh on Thursday demanded that the Gridco and distribution companies’ accounts be audited by the CAG before any decision is taken on the power tariff hike proposal pending with the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC).

“The Gridco’s power tariff proposal is totally unacceptable. let the CAG audit all accounts of the Gridco and discoms since power reforms started in the State in 1996 first and then consider the tariff revision on the basis of its report,” said Mahasangh president Panchanan Kaunugo here.

Addressing a Press conference, Kanungo said, “There has been a nexus among the State Government, OERC and discoms and the consumers have fallen prey to it.” “While the average tariff per unit was `1.20 prior to reformation, now it is `5.20 and the Gridco has made a proposal to increase it to `7 per unit,” he informed.
