Even though the Opposition Congress and BJP still remaining firm not to participate in the committee constituted to study criteria for the proposed State legislative Council, the Government has notified the panel’s first meeting for Monday.
“We have boycotted the committee. Our MlA will not participate in the meeting at all,” said leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Narasingha Mishra. However, Committee chairperson and BJD MlA Dr Nursingha Sahoo hoped that all the five members, including three from ruling BJD and one each from Congress and BJP would attend the meeting on Monday.
The Government had in December constituted a committee, comprising BJD MlAs Dr Nrusingha Sahoo, Pramila Mallick and Manohar Randhari, Congress’ Bhujabal Majhi and Nitesh Gangdev of BJP, to visit Karnataka and Maharashtra to study the legislative Council system there.
