With no option left for forming pre-poll tie-up with the ruling BJD, the left parties seem to have decided to field candidates for all the Assembly and one lok Sabha seats in the district for the upcoming elections.
CPM candidates, Pradipta Panda and Sisir Hui, who had fought the last election from Nilgiri and Jaleswar Assembly sets respectively under the seat-sharing agreement with the BJD, are likely to be candidates for the same seats again.
The party is believed to have gone through brain storming exercises for selecting candidates for the other Assembly seats and the lok Sabha seat in the district. It may reach a seat-sharing agreement with the CPI, sources said.
Panda, a former MlA of Nilgiri, had slipped to fourth position despite having support from coalition partners. The main reason was the fragmentation of his constituency and formation of a new reserved constituency, Remuna.
The majority of CPM supporters remained in Remuna. The BJP-supported Pratap Sarangi won the seat in the elections. Similarly, the primary reason behind defeat of Hui in Jaleswar Assembly seat was Gourgopal Das, a rebel candidate from coalition partner BJD. He polled over 20,000 votes in his favour.
It helped Congress candidate Debiprasanna Chand grab the seat. The BJP had fielded Aswini Patra as its candidate. Now, Patra, who joined the BJD recently, is likely to get the BJD ticket for the seat.
