Members of the Ganjam Bar Association have urged Brahmapur SP Pinak Mishra to make some relaxation in collection of fines from motor vehicle riders for violating traffic rules under the new Motor Vehicle Act.
“The quantum of fines being collected for traffic rule violations is putting a finance burden on general public. A relaxation should be given to them,” lawyers told the SP on Friday.
Bar members like Pitabasa Panda, Kapileshwar Patnaik, Ashok Sukla, Deepak Patnaik, Kunja Bihari Panda, Raghunath Prasad Panigrahi, Asit Das and Sambit Patnik met the SP.
The lawyers also explained to the SP how people belonging to low income group are facing problems after paying huge fines and how they are facing difficulties in gathering required certificates.
In response, the SP said the rules are being implemented for the interest of people only. He said the proposal would be discussed soon at a meeting to be held with the district administration and the Bar Association.
