lawyers to launch cease-work from today

Published on:

lawyers have decided to launch an indefinite cease-work agitation across the State from Friday to press for their demand for arrest of the accused in the Hemant Sahu murder case. Sahu (33), a lawyer of Boudh, was brutally killed by some unidentified miscreants with sharp weapons on Tuesday while he was on a morning walk in his village Bahira under the Bausuni police station. Sahu was also BJP’s Boudh district legal cell president.

The cease-work decision was taken at the High Court Bar Association office in Cuttack on Thursday.

Sources said court proceedings were affected in Cuttack as High Court lawyers quit work from Thursday afternoon. The Bhubaneswar Bar Association has also joined hands with the striking lawyers supporting their demand to arrest the culprit.

Meanwhile, police said two miscreants are suspected to be directly involved in the incident. Police suspected that longstanding dispute between the relatives of the deceased over property might have led to the killing. Earlier, two persons, including deceased’s father, had been killed in 2004 over property dispute, police said. The exact reason would be known only after the arrest of the accused, they said.
