The Banpur Bar Association on Wednesday held a 12-hour bandh demanding Sub-Divisional status to Banpur in Khordha district. The bandh evoked an overwhelming response.All shops and other business establishments downed their shutters and vehicular traffic was off the roads in Banpur, Tangi, Nachuni and Gambarimunda. Educational institutions also remained closed.
The Bar Association members said since 1972 they have been demanding Sub-Divisional status for Banapur but the Government has turned a deaf ear to their demands. For their official works they have to travel to Khordha , which is nearly 100 km from here.Though the lawyers had called for the bandh many other organisation expressed their solidarity and voluntarily joined the bandh. So, if Government does not fulfil their demand they will intensify the agitation.Though the police had made elaborate security arrangements and deployed forces at sensitive location there are no reports of any untoward incident.
